Zoolander: Brainless Comedy, Non?

the Poster:

the Trailer:

the Plot:

Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) is an award-winning male model who is "really, really, ridiculously good-looking." Hansel (Owen Wilson) is his nemesis, a model who won the Male Model of the Year, denying Derek's fourth year straight win. Hansel's career is just beginning and Derek's popularity is starting to fade.

After a "walk off" duel that was won by Hansel, Derek decided to quit.

However Mugatu (Will Ferrell), a fashion designer who was plotting the assassination of the Prime Minister of Malaysia had Derek brainwashed to be the killer with the help of his assistant, Katinka (Milla Jovovich) and Derek's agent, Maury (Jerry Stiller).

Matilda (Christina Taylor), a newspaper reporter who was a friend of Derek uncovered a plot where models that worked for Mugatu often found dead by curious circumtances. She then alerted Derek and they went to meet a mysterious informer who turned out to be a former hand model, JP Prewitt (David Duchovny) who confided that a secret fashion industry organisation was behind the series of assassination of famous people by using Mugatu as a front. When pursued by lethal Katinka and her goons, Derek and Matilda went to Hansel's abode to hide.

After coming clean about each other, Hansel and Derek become friends and join forces against Mugatu and ultimately saving the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Hasan.

Using his latest signature look named "Magnum", Derek thwarted Mugatu's attempt at the PM's life and became a hero.

(Hasan the PM. a far cry from Tun M's looks who happened to be the PM when this movie came out)

the Riviu:
looking back at the trailer and the short clips, i admit, the story was funny. brainless funny at that. watch it if you are that bored and interested about Zoolander pertaining to this following pix:

captioned: Hansel finally met the REAL Prime Minister of Malaysia.

yup. a brainless comedy that literally had so many stars in it as cameo appearence that i lost count after Natalie Portman. and there are so many scenes that were ROTF funny..

hahahahah :no words:

looking for info in the Computer, hahahah, macam monyet!

the Magnum! should have included the part where Derek spoke in Malay in addressing the PM. that would have been so hilarious :)

Pride & Prejudice 2005: owh Mr Darcy!!

the Poster:

the Trailer:

the Plot:
based on Jane Austen's novel of the same name, Pride and Prejudice tells the tale of how two opposite characters, Lizzie Bennet (Keira Knightley) and Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy (Matthew MacFadyen) fell in love with each other and found out that in actual truth, they are so similar with each other. Accused of pride, Mr Darcy suffered the prejudice of Lizzie Bennet and in the course of winning her heart over, had caused his besotted bestfriend, Mr Charles Bingley (Simon Woods) to abandon his fond attachment to Lizzie's elder sister, Jane (Rosamund Pike), mistakenly so as Jane hardly showed any attachment to Mr Bingley due to her acute shyness.

the fact is, having 5 daughters with the house being entailed to Mr Collins (Tom Hollander), the cousin of Mr Bennet (Donald Sutherland), Mrs Bennet (Brenda Blethyn)was desperate to marry her daughters off. Mrs Bennet's antics were embarassing, her eagerness that Jane would soon ensnare a wealthy man in Mr Bingley became a major humiliation to Jane when Mr Bingley left. in the meantime, Mr Collin married Lizzie's best friend, Charlotte Lucas (Claudie Blakley) as Lizzie had rejected his earlier proposal.

during her stay with her uncle's family, Lizzie uncovered the cause of Jane's broken heart was due to the machinations of Mr Darcy. as Lizzie escaped out in the rain to deliberate on this new information, she was bombarded by the sudden proposal from Mr Darcy who followed her. to her ire, Mr Darcy insulted Lizzie inadvertently by numerating all the demeaning facts that should discourage him from falling in love with her in his speech of offering matrimony. he cited that the Bennets lower stand in the society, the nonsensical younger sisters in form of Kitty (Carey Mulligan) and Lydia (Jena Malone), the lack of propriety of Mrs Bennet. incensed, she refused his offer of hands and left with accusations of him having caused Mr Wickham (Rupert Friend), a common acquaintance, to a life of misfortunes.

love his beautiful eyes!!!

however, it was later revealed that Wickham is the real scoundrel who broke Mr Darcy's younger sister's heart. Wickham had flirted with Georgiana Darcy (Tamzin Merchant) and had proposed an elopment. however he bailed out after knowing that he won't be able to touch even a penny of Georgiana's inheritance. Wickham later on persuaded the oft-scandalous Lydia to leave her home and be with him. the scandal was unbearable and in his suble ways, Mr Darcy had found the runaway couple and settled the matter so that Wickham marries Lydia in order to save the Bennets' honour.

and later on, Mr Bingley visited the Bennets with Mr Darcy without his haughty sister, Caroline Bingley (Kelly Reilly). discouraged at first, Mr Bingley left the house without saying what he came to say. Mr Darcy bolstered his confidence with the fact that Jane Bennet is really fond of him, she's just to shy to say it. so Mr Bingley reentered the Bennets' residence and requested to speak with Jane. Alone.

to his proposal, Jane answered:

and the family rejoiced, while Lizzie was left pining for Mr Darcy who left them without saying a word. later that night, Lady Catherine de Bourgh (Judi Dench) came to the Bennets, commanding a private conversation with Lizzie. the Lady who was Mr Darcy's aunt, demanded that Lizzie promises not to be in a relationship with him as she had planned the matrimony of Mr Darcy with her own daughter. Lizzie was insulted and requested that Lady de Bourgh leave the home.

for the whole night, she couldn't sleep and decided to wander in the fields at dawn. and a familiar figure approached~

the Characters:

the Review:
what else can i say? i'm besotted with this movie and could not find any fault. even tried comparing it with the 1995's tv series of the same adaptation and found that the 2005 win hands down.. the shy beauty Jane, the witty sage Lizzie and most of all, the irresistable Mr Darcy.

i love the movie, it was apt and simple but totally beautiful.. the score was fitting, the casting superb. totally a 5 star :)

the Bennet girls of 2005 were so fitting with their characters, kan? it's obvious that Jane is the beauty, Lizzie the willful, Mary the awkward middle, Kitty and Lydia the giggling nonsensical pair~~ and i rather like the close friendship shared by Lizzie and Charlotte. the 1995 version didn't put much stock in it.

i wish to point out that one of the memorable scenes was Jane's reaction to Mr Bingley's proposal. it even outshine the Elinor's reaction in Sense and Sensibility as shown here:

awwwww... so sweet, sweet dear heart ~~

the other would be the declaration of love of Mr Darcy as he met Lizzie at the fields. i couldn't embed the score for Dawn. so i chose to share this fan-made vid with you guys :)

in simple gestures, it conveys that most romantic declaration warrants not a lip lock. a kiss on the knuckels, meeting of foreheads and a touch on the face would suffice..

sigh. i'm nuts about this movie :)

Monster in Law: YAY for Ruby!

as promised, Monster in Law~

the Poster:

the Trailer:

the Plot with Pix:
a nice girl, Charlotte "Charlie" Cantilini (Jennifer Lopez) met a man of her dreams, Dr Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan), a surgeon who just moved into the neighbourhood. they dated for a few months and shortly after moving in together, Kevin brought Charlie to meet his mother, Viola (Jane Fonda), a famous achor who just got replaced and suffered a meltdown.

Viola was welcoming to Charlie as she thought that maybe Kevin was not serious with Charlie.

however..
Kevin had proposed to Charlie in front of her mother. and she accepted. from thereon, Viola devised a sneaky plot to get Charlie out of her son's life with the help of her faithful, sassy mouth Ruby (Wanda Sykes).

Viola made Charlie's life a living hell and Charlie, being a good girl she was, tolerated Viola as much as she could. until Remy (Adam Scott) who was Charlie's gay friend/neighbour found out that Viola was checking up on Charlie's background...

Morgan (Annie Parisse) and Remy then helped Charlie to triffle through Viola's things. next Charlie found out that Viola was playing a ruse in making both Kevin and Charlie believe that she was sick and needed to be on medication as well as having to be with them.

so Charlie devised her own plot to get back at Viola which she executed with finesse. and at a lunch appointment, the odds were laid out..

Viola even got to poisoned Charlie by feeding her nuts (she's allergic to that) on the night of the wedding, causing Charlie's face to bloat up and swell!

however, waking up, all was well again, Charlie's face intact. pleased with herself for being able to handle Viola, Charlie was happy on her wedding day. everything was going well,...

...until Viola sailed through, wearing white, aimed at dimming the effect the bride was going to have on the wedding guests..
the war of words ensued and slaps were exchanged. then Gertrude (Elaine Stritch), Kevin's paternal grandmother walked in, exchanging snide remarks with Viola that are not unlike the one Charlie and Viola had bartered with each other.

after witnessing the altercations between Gertrude and Viola, Charlie felt that perhaps she and Viola would end up like that in 30 years on. so she decided to break off the wedding.

as Charlie left to talk to Kevin, Ruby gave Viola an earful of much terrible Viola was as compared to Gertrude. to that Viola replied that what she did was to secure her son's happiness. and Ruby shot out "at what point did you think he's unhappy?"

having an epiphany, Viola summoned Charlie to have a word with her, pleading with Charlie to go with the wedding. recognising the goodness in Viola, Charlie made amends and the wedding was on, as it should have been.

before the newlyweds left, Kevin sought his mother and hugged her good bye.

the Riviu:
the movie was enjoyable somewhat. the sidekicks are memorable too. i'm pleased to note that Adam Scott was in this movie as a prying eccentric gay friend of Charlie. the animosity between Charlie and Viola is believable. the same thing could be said about Kevin and Charlie. it seems to me that though Kevin and Charlie have a believable chemistry, they somewhat lack the spark. and i couldn't understand why Charlie live her life as she did, being a temp and doing odd-jobs.

anyway, Ruby is the person that always provided the punch lines and comedic reliefs. she's a riot and fun to wath. kudos for Wanda Sykes!

the Slaps Fight was also funny to watch. merah muka mak ngah :)

this movie is quite stingy with songs. otherwise it would have been nicer. i love to note that Charlie puts Viola above Kevin when she demanded that Charlie talk to her first. it shows that she really IS a good girl. and Kevin hugging his mom before leaving was also a very nice touch and a testimonial that he is a GREAT guy.

they deserve each other :)

Jane Eyre (2011): MF's fanfest all over :)

the Poster:

the Trailer:
or this UK version.

the Plot:
the movie opens with Jane Eyre (Mia Wasikowska) wandering in anguish and great heartache in the moor before collapsing.

the story then flashed of her earlier life as an orphan mistreated and casted off by her aunt, Mrs Reed of Gateshead (Sally Hawkins) to Lowood School for Girls for being passionate and opinionated. though she was subjected to extreme prejudice and shame at the charity school due to her aunt's misleading testimonial that she was deceitful, Jane (Amelia Clarkson) met a very nice girl, Helen Burns (Freya Parks) who became her fast friend.

however, Helen then died of consumption in her sleep, in Jane's arms.

Jane grew up at the school and later left to be a governess to Adele Varens (Romy Settbon Moore), the ward of Mr Edward Rochester Fairfax (Michael Fassbender) at Thornfield Hall.

she soon make friends with the housekeeper, Mrs Alice Fairfax (Judi Dench), a distant relative to Mr Rochester who manages the estate.

from the moment he set his eyes on Jane, Mr Rochester was transfixed and thus seek to have her by all means though he is bound by the law to his estranged, mad wife, Bertha Antoinetta Mason (Valentina Cervi) whom he put in seclusion and away from people's knowledge.
Mr Rochester grateful to Jane for saving him from being burnt alive.

in the mean time, he dallied with Miss Blanche Ingram (Imogen Poots) who looked down upon Jane for her plainness.

after she came back from visiting the dying Mrs Reed, Jane was told by Mrs Fairfax that Mr Rochester intended to marry Miss Blanche Ingram. It broke her heart and she offered to leave. during that conversation, Mr Rochester confessed of wanting to make Jane his wife. unknown to the fact that Mr Rochester is a married man, Jane accepted his proposal of marriage.

however Mr Rochester's ruse was exposed on the day they were supposed to be married and being a good Christian, Jane though she pitied and loved him still, had walked away and left Thornfield.

delirious, Jane had stumbled in cold weather at the door of the Rivers', a missionary family led by St John (Jamie Bell). Diana (Holliday Grainger) and Mary Rivers (Tamzin Merchant) took care of Jane and when it was found that Jane inherited a large sum of money from her deceased uncle, John Madeira, Jane shared it with the Rivers whom she seek to be their sisters.

however St John had taken fancy of her and asked her to go to India with him as his wife. Jane agreed to accompany him to India but refused to marry him. incensed, St John accused her of committing blasphemy to God for still pining for Mr Rochester.

At that precise moment Jane realized that she must return to Thornfield – to secure her own future and finally, to conquer what haunted both her and Rochester.

the Review:
it took me weeks to finish the movie in whole. and i love to repeat the scene where Mr Edward Rochester Fairfax came clean with Jane of his true intention and later on propose to her. truly, MF's voice was haunting.. the chemistry between him and MW seems real and deep. and the despair on the night they parted after the truth was exposed, i pitied Mr Rochester, really. you can taste the tears in his words T-T

MR: i can bend you with my finger and my thumb, a mere reed you feel in my hands. God, whatever i do with this cage, i cannot get to you. and it's your soul that I want. why don't you come of your own free will?

JE: God, help me!

:nanges:

the storyline where the sequence of the story was interlaced was to my liking. and the fact that it was put forth that the Rivers are only adopted by Jane as her family and not really her family through John Madeira as depicted in the book, won my vote. the cinematography was also nice.
the estate was beautiful kan?

Jane Eyre is one of my fave Bronte book. and watching the 2011's version made me go through the earlier versions. be patient ya, i'm going to review the 1996 version.

till then, enjoy this :)

ps: i refrained myself from giving 5 star due to the fact that i lamented earlier, that Jane Eyre was so carefree with her kisses after Mr Rochester became her fiance. perhaps JE and MR should have taken a leaf from Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet :grins:

and this:

added bonus, a Featurette:
